Gas Compressor Engineering is seeking select advanced degree candidates for an internship working on Centrifugal Compressor Seal systems at elevated pressures. The position requires experience in CFD, preferably Ansys:CFX and experience with varied compressor seal types. Rotordynamic stability, cross-coupling forces, swirl, and leakage will be evaluated. CFD methods will be developed, tested, and validated in the Solar Turbines closed loop test facility. In addition to the computational objectives, test support will also be involved.
MS or PhD student in Mechanical or Aerospace (or similar discipline) Engineering
2.7 GPA or higher
Engineering Internship experience
3.0 GPA or higher
Familiarity with turbomachinery
Experience with CFD-ANSYS-CFX
Experience with Filled Honeycomb and Hole Pattern Seals
Centrifugal Gas Compressor experience
